yesterday 6-6-10 adventure at Graham's house

Sunday was a great day of visiting new friends. One of the 4 musketeers of the North Yard. (Hugh, Kurt, Graham and Ben) these four guys bonded while all their boats were on the hard way in the far north end of the yard. I've talked about Kurt a little now he is back in Texas. He comes and works on his boat every so many months and stays a month at a time. His boat is not yet ready. Maybe another year or two. Hugh (not sure how to spell his name) he is a veterinarian and has one more year of working then he will retire to his boat. Then there is Graham who has a british accent. (amazing how many people do! Hue does too) Graham's boat is in the water and he stays at a different marina. He invited us to their place. His wife is Irene, she also is adorable but without a british accent. She has an interesting life, one that not many of us from Minnesota hear about. She is a professional actress and an author of two books. You'll have to google her name Irene Ziegler. She is lively, animated and very interesting to hear some of her stories. Their house is a smattering of recycled antique and wood they milled from their land. The inside is a frame house but frames from an ancient barn. The beams are so keenly put together to make an eclectic intriguing house/dwelling place. the stone work is from the Barn also. Banisters from some famous place in Virginia, a cute old window from his growing up in UK. He went to a boarding school the kind we hear about in movies. Besides Grahams accent he has a playful outlook on life and that is just one of the many places where Ben and Graham connect, the biggest connection being music. don't get them started on naming musicians you will be there all day and night. their house is on the most beautiful part of the James river (you've heard of Jamestown), yup close to that. the scenery at their place, on the river, looks it did years ago - untouched. I felt I could almost see some of the old boats coming down the river. Oh and their landscaping was full of character and life. Oh and more we ate a delicious meal with yorkshire pudding (I've never had that before) and much more. we ate at an old table of Graham's family from growing up days. Every where you looked in the house were gems of old and gems from far away... like african artifacts (a cute little metal statue) each light fixture was different yet they all tied together, the doors were all made of wood from various places, the outside pillars were from somewhere I forget somewhere cool and neat. (like from an architecture scrap yard kind of a place)... or so I think. Anyway I could go on and on and on... but I won't cuz that should be enough to get the flavor of it.
The day was 97 degrees!! but we were at their house in a cool place most of the day. At night a squall came in and cooled us all down. I almost was feeling like it was blistering hot but I was saved by the visit.
Sorry we have no pictures of the house, next time we go for sure we will ask if we can take a few shots, maybe that would be rude to ask on the first visit but next time we will ask.
Before we ventured to their house we did go to that cute little non-mainstreamed church. I could see Scott loving it there. Anyway we are feeling more at home there. The pastor is a quick thinker cuz he has sermons that are to be dialogs. He asks a few questions and away the church members go and comment. It is way less formal than 90 % of most traditional churches. So his topic was making an analogy about the oil spill to our lives. the oil spill is out of control, everyone is trying to do this or that with no avail. our country is out of control with wars, politics and such, and even our lives can be out of control with this or that. We can't do it, that is why God is here. It will be what it will be. It is what it is. We are what we are. God knows this and that, we can throw up our hands and pray with faith that it is being worked out. He has the bigger picture and nothing and no one can save us. God can and we can let Him/Her do it. amen! Of course I am preaching to the choir. la la la. we can still live in faith. we can continue to love and do what we can each day and we can smile. which I happen to smile alot.
this was yesterday... sorry no pictures. i could add a random picture... here is a picture of the cutest little bat boy ( we went to a Deltaville Baseball local game) the Bat boy ran with such gusto that the picture does not do him justice. Let me tell you each time he ran to get the bat and ran back to the bench!!! he high-fived the players, smiled and just plain enjoyed his important job!!! cute as cute gets!
