Blog whales
It was 1:20 am bens watch. I was sound a sleep it was hard to pull myself out of a deep slumber! I stumbled
Up the companionway and listened. Big blow hole sounds surrounded the boat. It can't be! Once in a while their sillioette reflecting
Off the moon we could see the fin come up and circle down. There was one whale that surrounded us then came on our port about twenty feet and showed us her beauty and gracefulness complete with tail.
Funny this morning as I talked with Rebecca ( ekk! You get play by play. A whale just snuck up behind me and surfaced 10 feet behind and made a huge wave! There is zero wind so the tide just turned and back I go to the main whale area!) ok back to Rebecca. I said, " we are going to look for whales!" Rebecca being the researcher that she is asked, "oh when do they migrate and where do they hang out?" well me being the free spirit I have no idea. All I know is we are heading into whaling territory. Marthas vineyard developed from whaling. Nantucket the same. And I know people go to cape cod to see whales. How hard could it be...
Then I thought. Hummm ya know how hard it is to find fish when fishing? Especially when you are not a native... So I replied with, "well it will be like finding a needle in a haystack. We have no wind so there is a little more chance to see them."
Then you add in, "ok God. I'd love to see a whale. I've looked on line now (since rebeccas conversation) and did not find what I was looking for. So Lord, I'm open," well how do I get to be blessed? I don't know but here I am... Half moon, shooting stars... And whales moaning sounds with many port hole blows! Shiver me timbers!!!
Did you know that back in the day of whaling 1/3 of whaleboats never came back!! Erie! And here I am nature mermaid girl among the breeching whales!! I hope the sun cones up soon so I can see them better! But it is only 3:18am so you all are stuck with a stream of my Blah blah blah! Weird we have cell phone coverage.
I did not know they seem to talk back and forth where you can hear them from the top of the water! Moan to moan! Ha ha I just looked at the gps we are almost back to where we began two hours ago. It might take a while to get to Maine. I'm ok with hangin out hear till morning as long as they hang out and after two hours I think they are here for a while.
Again there is bio illuminate bugs an one whale I saw it glow from a far!! Someone pinch me! The whale silhouette sparkled as he swam.
It is so quiet here. I have not seen one big ship! And only one fishng boat. Before the moon came up. On my shift from 6-10 p once the sun went down it was darkkkkkk! Black dark!
Oh I hear the whales moving out further east. Oh here is a weird thing. I hear loons! Do they hang out in salt water too? Or is there a special breed for salt water. I know a loon when I hear it!
I think that might be all the excitement for the night.
Posting to blogger. We are 4miles off shore and still cell phone range.
