she's alive!

Cricket is awake in the seas. she went in the water just fine.
Lets see... boat owning everyone says is a lot of fixing and then re fixing...
today on our todo list we added... fix the engine rpms does not show... must have moved the wirer sensor some how when we changed the oil. (right now Owen is sitting on the table snugging up to my typing hands. he is tring to get used to the boat moving and swaying.) Winds are 15 knots and howling!!! there is clanking all around us with people's halyards dinging. hummm that is one thing I will have to get used to, since I don't sleep well to begin with it will be challenging to tune out those sounds, i will report back later about that. i finally have a computer to type on so a longer blog will be tonight but with that comes me rambling. like i like to ramble... anyone that knows me knows i'm always up for a good story whether I tell it or someone else does... and since you are a captive audiance I will ramble on...

oh yes, back to the fixing: the dingy has a whole due to a wintering mouse. we went and got a repair kit. there is a sailboat shop here that has everyone captive and the "gotcha".... so believe it or not we spent $31 for 6 patches and glue. of course it is guarenteed. ha ha ha... oh and putting together the dingy was yet another mensa puzzle. each peice in it's place and a certian order.

right now my dad is playing sudoku on my iphone... isn't that funny. here in the harbour we have wifi. so for a few more days we will beable to blog after that it will depend on cell phone range. we will see.

fixing the water tank will be a great challenge that we will have someone else tackle this winter. yup we have 2 holding tanks 40 gallons each and one has a leak... how many houses do you know where 40 gallons of water can spill on the floor and it is no big problem and we did not even notice until we tried to use the water and none was there. we opened up the bildge and there was water. simply turn on the bildge pump and poof all gone. no fuss no muss....

Since i have time lets go back in time... adventure trips... i have to say Sharon and i were partners in adventure beginning with mounds park a woods near our house. we adventured there in the summer, spring, fall and winter... on time we even saw a mink! just ask Sharon! we make pottery out of the red clay from the side of the creek, we ripped out pants on rainbow tree that leaned over the creek. we build forts out of sticks or snow depending on what was available to us. we made up silly songs which I still do. that is where i started my song writing career. ha ha ha those adventures took me well into jr high.

I watched my father be Noah on the block and build a home made sail boat from a kit. I helped in many parts of those 2 years. I wish I would have paid more attention to various things. oh well... I went on many a fishing trips and I remember many fishing trips... on time I came home .... never mind I better keep that for a later date. If I care to share. ha ha ha

We have a bimini but not clue as to how to put it on! mensa! man I am going to be so much more smarter when we get back! i;m sure this is good for my business increasing my brain power like this. I have helped out these to men on the boat in many a ways. just ask Ben. I'm sure he is not mentioning the fact that I said, "lets set up the dingy on shore" but nope the guys (mostly my dad) was convinced the dock would be a better place. then we figured out it had a hole and now we had it sprawled all over the dock where people walk. we packed it up and put it back on land. I'm a happy captian. still green though - I have not earned my stripes yet but in time I will.

there is an endless list of going to the hardware store. each time we keep forgetting the washers that go to the sink. of all the things I talked about with what needs to be fixed there are 50 times more things that don't need fixing. for this kind of a boat the previous owner refitted just about everything on the boat. new rigging, bowsprit re done, new engine, new sails, new varnish, new GSP, etc... so i''m not complaining.

the previous owner was sent to us by God. i truly believe that! he has helped us with so much. he spent a week with us to rig the boat, and sail it. he has given everything on the boat to us. thousands of dollars worth of this and that. he is kind and very knowledgeable and has not laughed at us and our dreams. he normally is only a phone call away but this summer he is boating from Alaska to Japan on another boat (motor boat 60 feet) uffda.

oh here is a funny story about easterners and midwesters. we went to out favorite boat shop in annapolis and we were told we could not moor at the city mooring cuz our boat was too big. two shop ladies and a shop guy smiled and the one lady, Bess is her name, said, "oh yes that is right you are midwesterners and you all have to tell the truth all the time - don't you?-... don't tell the truth about how long your boat is. so what if your boat is 48 feet over all, it really is only 38 feet boat, just tell the harbour master it is a Han 38 and you can moor there."

and with that I will end the night... you have way much to read. thanks for you all that send me little feedback on the blog. i think they are boring now... but i'm sure soon they will get a little bit more lively. oh p.s. I just don't talk enough of how Ben and I are compatable in so many loving ways on this boat. there is a lot of communication that happens with all the mensa puzzles and such.
tomorrow the hardware store again.. 2 O rings for the sink, battery for the clock, gas for the outboard, ziplocks, scotch brite sponge... i'm sure there will be more later to add.
one more thing have to soak the oatmeal before bed. steel cut oats ya know.
God is good,
Pam
greet each one of you there from me.

  1. I am so glad you are having a good time together getting the boat ready for your journey. Incidentally, you and ben seems to have many of the same things to say in your blogs, probably because you guys are so much in sync with each other. I do enjoy reading what both of you have to write.
